Our very own high quality, professional (medium stretch) aerial silk (also known as an aerial fabric). Available in various lengths. Please note the size listed is the total length of the silk. As aerial silks are rigged from the center the working length is a little under half the total length. Please read the description below for full details. Working load limit: 282lbs
This product comes with your desired silk only. Addition rigging, carabiners, figure 8 and hooks are sold separately.
*Figure 8 aerial hooks (sold separately) required to hang this silk.
NON-SLIP AND DURABLE
Our Aerial Silks are of a high quality, professional standard and made from a durable, ladder resistant fabric. The material’s non-slip textured finish provides more grip than other Aerial Silks but still retains a sheen under stage lights.
The 58″ wide, 75 denier fabric creates a chunky grip. The durability of the fabric makes it very well suited to studios where it will get a lot of use.
**MEASURING SILK FOR PROPER LENGTH:
Take the height of the ceiling or rigging point to determine your desired length of silk. Example: A 10 yard silk is 30 ft in total. That means when it is folded in half and in use the total length of the silk is only 15 ft. Add 3 feet extra for a tail on the ground and for knot tying. If you use a 15 yard silk, that would give you 45 feet of silk in total. Divided by two = 22.5 feet of height. You would have approximately 2.5 feet extra if you wanted a 20 ft silk. For a 20 ft high cieling I would reccomend a 17 yard silk, to allow a little bit extra room for play.
BOUNCE AND STRETCH
-Medium stretch great for advanced or beginner
-The downwards stretch in these silks doesn’t need to be broken in and pulls out over 4-6 months but is fine for immediate use. As these silks have a medium stretch, they are well suited for some advanced moves where more bounce is preferred. Medium stretch silks, especially when brand new, will take more energy to climb than our low stretch Prodigy Aerial Silks.
-Choose a length of silk that is double the height of the area/rig you are using plus about 6 foot.
-For a low ceiling height (13ft and below, for example) you may want to consider a longer length of fabric to give you more tail. This is because with a low ceiling height you will run out of tail quickly when practicing wraps.
-An aerial hook (sold separately) is required to hang this silk.
-Fabric is 100% polyester.
DROPS
All Aerial fabrics are prone to reaching high temperatures during long or high energy slack drops, this can result in small melted patches, and even holes. These holes are caused by the friction of the fabric rubbing against itself and the performer during high speed movement. Nylon and low stretch fabrics are more susceptible, so the stretchy polyester of these Silks is slightly less prone to this phenomenon. However, you should always take care when practicing slack drops, and be aware of the high amount of friction you can generate during these drops.
If you regularly perform slack drops, you will need to inspect the full length of your fabric regularly, and the fabric will need replacing more often
